How does one become a member of St. Peter?
The first question to be asked is, why become a member of St. Peter? The answer lies in the very special bond that we share at St. Peter. Every time we gather, we celebrate the fact that Jesus has given life to each of us by his own sacrifice on the cross. Along with that, the members of St. Peter share a commitment to work together to be God’s voice and his hands in our community. It is a wonderful mission in which our goal is to lift up three things that mean so much to us: Faith, Family and Forever.

The first time you worship here you are a guest, but by the third time you worship with us we like to call you a regular attender. That means we have come to know each other and have a relationship. Some have chosen to stay in this loose relationship for several years while others desire to join as quickly as possible. The ministry we offer is for anyone, but as you come to believe in what we are working together for, you are welcome to become a member. It is in membership that you accept a partnership in the work we do together. It is also in membership that we are able to identify you as one of the team and are better able to support you and your family.

We offer a six-week class, “Discovering God’s Grace” several times a year that people can use to become members. This class explores basic issues of faith. While it is not intended only for those who are new to the faith, it gives us all opportunity to explore the heart of our relationship with God—grace. This class, led by the pastor allows the student to see the unique way the Lutheran Church teaches the truths of God. We use a student text but also study from the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism. Upon completion of this course the student should know enough to determine if he/she would like to become a member. Such joining the church is typically done at a public worship service.

We welcome people into membership through baptism, confirmation (where one publicly gives confession of the faith) or by transfer from another LC-MS congregation. If you are a member of another LC-MS congregation and desire to join St. Peter, you can do so by contacting your previous congregation asking them to transfer your membership/records to St. Peter. |
